Google Stadia - 4K for PC, Family Sharing and Achievements missing at launch

11/14/2019

When Google Stadia is released on 19/11, some announced features such as playing in 4K on the PC or the family library are still missing.

Google Stadia will be released on November 19. But at the start of the game streaming service, there is not yet the full range of functions. During a Reddit question-and-answer session with Andrey Doronichev, a member of the Stadia team, it emerged which features will be missing at the beginning (via PC Gamer).

This includes, for example, the Family Library. Although you can already link as a family, if the children want to play games with their account, they have to be bought about it at the beginning. Doronichev stressed, however, that the work on this is a high priority and that the feature should be released in 2020.

Also the Buddy Pass, which is included in the bundle of the sold out Stadia Founders Edition in Germany, will not be available immediately at launch. With the Buddy Pass, Stadia can be used temporarily by another person. But Google expects to deliver the Buddy Pass about two weeks later.

4K resolution only with Chromecast Ultra

The promised Achievements also do not make it into the starting version of Google Stadia. However, Doronichev promised that the relevant information would be stored. However, the platform to view the awards would not be ready in time for the Stadia launch.

Another limitation to starting Stadia is that 4K, HDR, and 5.1 sound can only be streamed on the Chromecast Ultra. "On the first day, PC Chrome gameplay won't support these features," Doronichev explained. »But we will deliver support for PCs in 2020."

In addition, only the Chromecast Ultra included in the Founders Edition can receive the service at the start of the Stadia. Existing Chromecast Ultra will receive a firmware update shortly after launch to be fit for Stadia as well.
